Ireland land of my ansetors

Picture
The  picture above is of Ireland, looks like a beauitful country.   My great grandmother, Ellen McCarthy, (the woman sitting in the picture) came from Count Cork, Ireland     http://www.from-ireland.net/county/cork   in the late 1880's.  Ellen married Christopher Joyce,  who is believed to be a relative of famous author James Joyce.  The woman standing is my grandmother, Margaret Hauser.  I did not have the pleasure of knowing either of them , but my mom has told me many stories about what wounderful people they both were. This picture was taken  May 7, 1917.

  An Irish Blessing.
May road rise to meet you
May the wind be at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rain fall soft upon your fields,
                                                               until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Thr Irish shamrock is a religious smybol representing Three separate entities making One. The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit

My grandmother  taught my mom that blessing when she was a child. I think it's a really nice.
Margaret, my grandmother, married Leo Hauser in 1923 and had five childern that lived to adulthood.  My mom, Jean,  was the middle child and the only girl. Her brothers were Bob, Harold, Ray and Jim
Bob was drafted during WWII and was a paratropper in the 82nd airborne in the Battle of the Bulge. He was my favorite and even though he lived in Califorinia, came several times during my childhood to visit. I think I learned many of my philososphies about life from him. He died in January 2006, at the age of 84.
Harold was taken from home as a young boy by a relative and more or less held hostage from his mother inorder to get her to take her husband, Leo, back.  Being that Leo was an alcoholic, and that the relatives that had Harold were much better off than my Grandmother, Harold never did come back home.  The situation broke her heart, but she had to do what she felt best for all involved.
Jean, my mom, was raised in South Buffalo with her brothers. Married my Dad in 1957, and had four children. Diane, Dave , Gary, and myself.
They moved to Marilla, NY in 1965, 10 days after my first birthday and I have been a country girl ever since.  My mom still lives in the same house, and I live 7 miles from her in Elma.
Her other brother Ray was an aeronautical engineer and became a Professor of Engineering at the University of California.   In 1973 His only daughter Donna Rae was in a car accident that left her in a coma.  A state that she remains in today becuase my Aunt Maria was never able to "pull the plug".    Ray died in November  2006 at the age of 76.
The last brother Jim fought in Japan in WWII. Married my Aunt Lorraine in 1955. He ended up commiting suicide in the early 1960's, leaving my Aunt Lorraine to raise my cousins Mike, Kathy and Tom.  They are the only cousins I have ever known, and we get together a couple of time a years.
My Dad, Stuart Howard, was raised in a family of alcoholics.  I never met his parents, and only knew a couple of his brothers.  All drank and smoked themselves to death.  I know  little of my father's hertiage except that he was German, Irish, and English.
My Dad past away in 1990. I wish I had known him better and that we had been closer.

Family...

Picture
This is my son, Lee, and my Mom, Jean.
My two favorite people in the whole world.  We support each other in our endeavors and  they make my life meaningful!

Through the years...

Picture
This my husband Dave and our son,Lee
Dave, my husband,  and I have been together for years.   We had our son in 1988 when I was 24.  Working 45+ hours a week and having an infant  helped me to discover strengths  I didn't realize I had.
Looking back I would not trade the  experience of raising  my son for anything. He is my world.

 Nice people are awesome!

Picture
Once again  my son Lee with  my one and only niece Christina. I love them both very much.  Christina had her first child in May of 2010, a beauitful girl, Trinity.  That make me an official GREAT aunt!

Sisters forever

Picture
This is a picture of my 'big' sister Diane and I.  She past away in May 2010. We were very close and words can't explain how much I miss her.  Lesson learned -- Respect and cherish  the time you are given with  those you LOVE, for it is fleeting.
I also have two older brothers, Dave and Gary, which I try to stay in touch with, but we all have busy lives, making  it difficult to find the time.
Dave's life partner, Dori is a highly educated, intelligent, holistic nutritionalist.  Dori has taught me much about "whole" foods and their importance to the health, and also of the extreme damage that synthetic chemicals cause the body.
Dori began sharing her knowledge with me over 20 years ago, I think she help to start in me that little flame of wanting to learn more.   To become smarter about the world around me. To want to make a positive difference and help others.

Traditions

On Easter, Thankgiving, and Chirstmas day, my family gathers with my Mom and we share a meal and a few laughs.  With my sisters passing things have been difficult, especially  for my mom, but I'm sure we will do our best to keep the holiday dinners a tradition.
On Christmas eve my husbands family used to get together at his aunt and uncle's house, but  many lives have changed, and that no longer happens.  Now some time in January we  have a small family dinner at our house.  We are  closest  to our niece Christina and her new family.  My son and she are close and it would be good if they built some new family traditions that they could hold on to and build happy memories from.

Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood.
