Coincidences, are there such things or is it fate being sure that we follow the devine plan...
...I cannot say that school is easy, but anything meaningful is worth working for. A quote by philosopher Friedrich Nietzscher has been my motto through the years; "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." On days when I feel overwhelmed with it all, I think of my sister and the amazing courage with which she lived her life. Caring for her during her illness was a powerful "coincidence". Promises made during those days will not be forgotten, and in those promises I find the courage and the strength to continue my journey.
The core philosophy and values of Occupational Therapy are to treat the "whole" person, mind, body, and soul. I have always believed in a holistic approach to health. I feel it is correct to engage an indivdual in activities that open a persons mind as well as, in some way, touch his or her heart. It is just natural; the more interested and focused we are, the easier it is to be engaged with truly living life to the fullest.
I have always felt that we are all created equal, just in different ways. As a professional Occupational Therapy Assistant,I will continue to educate myself and be aware of my own limitations. Therefore, I will always value the rights of an individual to self-determination. I will work in collaboration and informed consent to ensure that each individual understands the benefits, risks, and the potential outcomes. I will advocate in the best interest of my client and of my profession. I will promote the empowerment of each individual, to render him or her increasingly capable to live as they choose, just as I wish to do.
To each individual I serve, I promise to work for and with him/her, to support and encourage him/her. I want to understand the person, to teach and to learn from him/her. To spend time with, value, trust and respect him/her. To walk beside him/her. But most of all I will believe in the individual and their many capabilties. For this is the least I can do for all that he/she gives to me.
